‘Sree Padmanabhaswami Kshetram Charithra Rekhakalilude’, a book on the history, customs, ceremonies and practices followed at  the famous temple was released.

The book serves as an authentic record on the history, customs, ceremonies, and practices followed in the Sree Padmanabhaswami Temple.  The book is authored by S Uma Maheswari who did extensive research into the historical and archeological facets of the temple.

The effort taken by the author in collecting documents is very evident from the richness of original records reproduced for substantiating the research. Thus this book has attained the value of a source for reference. This 272 page book has well organised 18 chapters.

In the last chapter the author explains in detail the discovery of the real image of Anizham Tirunal Marthanda Varma who is credited as the founder of Travancore.

The  true images of Marthanda Varma and his successor Karthika Tirunal Rama Varma were found on the topmost panels on the northern and southern sides of the temple tower.

Besides the sculptures of these two rulers, the panels also bear the efficient dalawas who served these two rulers namely Ramayan and Ayyappan Marthandan Pillai.

Though built in the Dravidian style, the top panels on the said sides are adorned with Victorian cherubs.

The book was released by Sri Mulam Tirunal Rama Varma at a function held at the Levee Hall. Former Additional Chief Secretary J Lalithambika received the first copy. Published by Sri Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma Literary and Charitable Trust.
